It’s a perfect fall week in North Carolina. You’d never believe that a couple weeks ago we had a major storm come through. The pumpkins and mums are out everywhere and the NC State Fair is in full swing. For anyone who's looking for fun things to do in the Triangle, check out the Triangle Weekender, another great regional magazine. Which brings us to the star of the fall advertising campaigns, the Three Empires at the Museum of Art. Whoever is running the advertising for the show is doing an epic job. It’s $20 at the local museum and word of mouth buzz in downtown Raleigh just walking around is noticeable. For anyone who is not old enough to remember...
Hurricane recovery continues, but it looks like people are sorting stuff out and getting back to fall festival stuff with added food drives at events. Makes you feel good about the country seeing people come together. We’re also getting back to our planned blog posts. We got a huge number of print magazines and advertising in September which was nice, the clear winners were Jennifer Garner and Southern Living Magazine. For anyone who has not gotten to see America’s sweetheart mom, Garner is busy promoting her Once Upon A Farm family produce line in local grocery stores and doing a great job. There’s a lot of kids' stuff which will appeal to health moms, but the clear winner are the...
Keep wanting to discuss print, but hurricane recovery stuff is rolling out so we’re making an extra blog post this week for people who may need resources right now. Below is info for potential funding for clients to access. It’s wholesome to hear from neighbors about all the bands that have toured through Asheville over the decades setting up fundraising concerts. Thank you! Hopefully Raleigh organizers will also get together and do some type of Mutual Aid or Farm Aid style projects at the fall music concerts downtown on Fayetteville Street. The big request is for shelf-stable food. We’ve also got grant links for artists, especially dancers, who may have lost their primary income and need a few thousand dollars...
Alright, people are checking in after the hurricane this week. We’re fine in Raleigh. The shop’s fine. We just got heavy rain unlike the Western part of the state. Shout out to the local churches, firefighters, and shelters for stepping up around Asheville. Based on Katrina in the 90s and what we’re hearing, the biggest requests are for: Bottled water Shelf stable food Fuel Physical Cash Chainsaws and people to cut up trees on properties, do repairs from flood damage Hope that helps. As always, going local tends to stretch dollars further because it goes to the actual people involved vs. 99% overhead. Food is definitely the big ask from pantries, etc. as they are getting cleaned out daily and...
What a breath of fresh air. There’s a print renaissance which is great for sales and marketing since it converts 20x for sales compared to speaking. 100% behind the big trend for September fashion week. This isn’t a new trend of course, George Orwell and other state propagandists 100+ years ago discussed their love of print vs. radio in WW II, but it’s nice to see print making a practical comeback as podcasting feels off lately. Not sure why. Totally loved all the smart magazines we’ve gotten September here at the shop. There’s also cute little flyers, coupons, newspapers, and zines you see downtown floating around. Definitely some new talent cropping up. It might be worth taking a second look...
