Western NC

Alright, people are checking in after the hurricane this week. We’re fine in Raleigh. The shop’s fine. We just got heavy rain unlike the Western part of the state. Shout out to the local churches, firefighters, and shelters for stepping up around Asheville. Based on Katrina in the 90s and what we’re hearing, the biggest requests are for:

  1. Bottled water
  2. Shelf stable food
  3. Fuel
  4. Physical Cash
  5. Chainsaws and people to cut up trees on properties, do repairs from flood damage

Hope that helps. As always, going local tends to stretch dollars further because it goes to the actual people involved vs. 99% overhead.  Food is definitely the big ask from pantries, etc. as they are getting cleaned out daily and well water is common outside the city so if you want to organize a food drive in your office, that’s great. Manna is popular, but their headquarters got washed out in the flood so you may want to do a little digging for something local on your own. They appear to be operating out of the Asheville farmer's market at the moment for the next 2 weeks. Not sure what they're long-term plans are. Other venues seem fine. Based on Katrina, we’ll probably see community clean-up volunteer sheets going out now. We hope that you and your loved ones are safe and doing well recovering.
