Rosemary

Second year deep mulch is slowly going in between winter snow and rain for Italian herbs. Rows of rosemary to protect baby heirloom strawberries hopefully in a few months. Strawberries are one of the coolest fruits out there so this may require lots and lots of careful taste testing.Yum.

Just finished reading a great book on CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture) called Sharing the Harvest by Elizabeth Henderson and Robyn Van En. We’ve ordered from the Produce Box, but didn’t realize how popular CSAs are. Given the number one request is for named/personalized cotton bags (12”x14”) to keep root vegetables for campus programs and city programs, you’ve got to think some NC State engineers or non-profit leaders who are interested in sustainability and textiles will design a robotic kiosk/app like Lowe’s key check-out to fill the niche. Local co-ops are a good place to start, but any major retailer who doesn’t offer free bags with purchase including Whole Foods would be a good target market. People stuck in line during the holidays or rush could enjoy using ChatGPT, Da Vinci Eye, etc. to make something goofy with friends and family.

With cotton prices being at all time lows, we can all get nice USA denim/cotton bags and transfers for cheap out of Texas or NC. And no, we’re not making them for you simply because it’s a common item factories can make at scale cheaper. You can try this out yourself on the DIY end for under $20 at Michaels, Wal-mart, Hobby Lobby, or any major craft store near you. The Sewing and Quilting Expo in Atlanta looks like it’s gearing up for cotton quilting in 2026 too. Will we see a lot of blanks too? Not sure if this is better as an app and/or physical unit, but if you like the idea, it’s yours. Have a great week all.
