Festival of Trumpets

What a breath of fresh air. There’s a print renaissance which is great for sales and marketing since it converts 20x for sales compared to speaking. 100% behind the big trend for September fashion week. This isn’t a new trend of course, George Orwell and other state propagandists 100+ years ago discussed their love of print vs. radio in WW II, but it’s nice to see print making a practical comeback as podcasting feels off lately. Not sure why.

Totally loved all the smart magazines we’ve gotten September here at the shop. There’s also cute little flyers, coupons, newspapers, and zines you see downtown floating around. Definitely some new talent cropping up. It might be worth taking a second look at starting your own monthly newsletter or musician artist songfest. Print out some little 10% off coupons. Try something low risk and fun practical off social media.

One of the hardest lessons learned at Belks working in sales is that radio ads are not as effective as print due to us getting a fancy marketing college major who had never worked in the real world. Sales would be roughly $600 day/person on days they played radio and $10,000 day/person when they ran print. Same audience. Not the same $$$. Given that we only took home 5%, making $30/day vs. $500/day on a Saturday during the Christmas holidays was hard for a college student trying to make rent and buy books in the early 2000s before the January return slow season. The brutal lesson stuck.

Anyways, fast forward 20 years and you see the same cycle repeating itself. Something positive to look forward to this winter.
