Thanks everyone for a great linen swap for the Harvest Festival! Squares and linen yarn kits were popular. Definitely feeling a quilting vibe lately. Got a lot of wool and acrylic yarn which was a lovely surprise to give away. Also, tried some new desserts and great food including Candy Toad Melons which sounds like something out of a Harry Potter movie, but you can pick them up in real life at Lidl. They are tasty. Lidl also has beautiful Italian pasta in natural flavors and specialty produce so it’s been a good recommendation passing along as a nicer Trader Joe’s if you’re into eating healthy. Still waiting for someone to capitalize on the whole grain trend to combine white summer, red winter, and blue German wheat for a red, white, and blue themed baked goods. Or all these fall beer festivals. The British do a nice golden wheat so you could also do a 4-pack craft beer if you wanted to do a British/American cross-over, but that requires connections. Perfect for a spy movie or WW II showing at a theater. It seems like the type of thing that would lend itself to A LOT of marketing campaigns. Don’t brew beer commercially so if you like the idea, it’s yours. Just send us a sample.
Hopefully people had a good time at the linen event and flipping out the shop as we go into the fall festival and fair season leading up to the Festival of Lights. Our next quarterly sewing project will be making free goods for our Raleigh community gardens on Sunday, Dec 6th from 12-6 pm. The big requests are 6 styles: modified kangaroo aprons for picking fruit and vegetables plus carrying tools, grow bags, harvest bags, bucket hats, knee pads, and gardening sleeves. We will be doing 100 of each which works out to a dozen per Raleigh location. Patterns are BASIC single-needle construction, so you do NOT need to be an expert.
If you do not have prior industrial sewing experience, sign-up to be an assistant where you will be turning, ironing, and packing the finished goods in boxes on December 6th for delivery Friday, December 11th. If you would like to donate to the project click: Support A Garden in the shop and check-out. Donors will receive free pdf copies of the tech packs and patterns the week of Dec 5th-12th. It makes a great winter group sewing project while it's cold out for a family, church, or gardening club. Have a great week everyone! May you all be blessed too.
