Butterfly Sanctuary
This weekend is the Duke Gardens Plant Sale. The gardens are beautiful and if you like bees or butterflies, it’s flower central. Weirdly there’s no real scifi films or books being released this fall season which gives us a chance to catch up on local flavors. Visit a few Ren Faires. Maybe a State Fair. Check out our tourist spots. If you’re in North Carolina, the most popular pollinator plant to grow is the Mountain Mint all up and down the Eastern Coast. This is a bit of a side marketing gimmick, but I thought that eventually we’ll see a trend of instead of farm to table restaurants, garden to bar around mint themes. Girls love butterflies and mixed drinks. Christmas holiday cookies and treats. What’s more American than overpriced drinks and sweets? Garden parties? Golfing? Tournaments? The Carolina Butterfly Society has a number of chapters in the State, but personally Durham has the best one. It’s a beautiful place to take kids or family as an outing. Some college marketing students at Duke or Chapel Hill could really cash in. You could do a book, maybe organic mixed drinks, save the butterflies, and lots of alcohol. Plenty of jokes. Something my brother and his college friends would have done 20 years ago to meet girls. Anyways, have fun people and we hope there’s a mint plant or two in your future too.
