Arsenic Candy

Finished building the compost pile before today’s rain hit, so it’s off to explore the wild wacky world of whole grain bread. There’s no good scifi or psychological fiction films due out this summer although F1 will probably be a financial goldmine. Apple does have Foundation Season 3 coming out which has potential, but won’t finish til mid-September so we’ll wait to see how well Asimov does. If you’ve ever read his book series, as a Russian Jew, it seems like a retelling of traditional Jewish myths. Egypt/Rome might be considered the Empire while the Foundation part might be the Queen of Sheba and Seba which in English means Queen of Seven or Queen of Apples. For anyone who hasn’t gone down this rabbit hole, the Americas is actually part of the ancient world mentioned repeatedly as Avalon or Seba or Land of Apples in myth and the Torah/Old Testament since if you view our land as a flat earth projection, North and South America look like an apple tree. You can actually find the Queen of Sheba’s lands today  on every modern map as Queen Mab or Queen of Fairies/Demons/Djinn in Antarctica. Just to be clear, the Queen of Sheba has MANY myths around her such as Lilith or the daughter of the King of Egypt which is also supposedly the Scottish princess who founded Scotland as a member of the Sidthe or Tuatha De Danann. Others say that she and King Solomon had a son, Nebuchadnezzar, who had a giant tree that was cut down which is the Devil’s Tower, WY in the US. You don’t have to believe that the US is ancient Babylon as many scifi and fantasy writers like Robert Jorden’s Wheel of Time series on Amazon where he calls the US the Two Rivers or as it’s known in Hebrew, the Plains of Shinar, but hey…creative license and all that. Still, the idea that a magical princess left Egypt to form a second distant empire at the end of the known flat earth which is represented as a galaxy in his series makes for interesting watching. It’s certainly better than Marvel is churning out.

Sorry to go on a tangent, but when you only have one movie or tv show that you’re interested in watching for 2025…oh well. Back to bread. As someone who struggled for years with modern US bread allergies only to find European wheat/bread is totally fine which made zero sense, finally got down to heirloom wheat works just great. No idea if the meme going around that a certain seed company crossed traditional wheat with tares (a poison plant for humans) to make dwarf wheat stand its heads during combine harvests or processing to cut off the outside layer of the wheat which has all the vitamins in it, but heirloom whole wheat rocks. If you live in the Triangle, a favorite place to get fresh bread is Weaver Street Market at $5-6/loaf or you can pick up whole grains to crack in your blender 1 cup at a time to make bulgur wheat which can be soaked overnight like rice to make great summer dishes in any state near you. Given how much shipping runs, please go a Google search for a local mill near you. We have a couple in NC including Lindley Mills, but walking in your local health food store (NOT WHOLE FOODS) will probably help the most as it’s sold for $1-2/lb in the bulk bins. Whole Foods used to be great, but their whole Amazon push to label everything as USDA Organic has nothing to do with Made in the US or organic quality levels so spend your money elsewhere. Thankfully even Wal-mart carries whole wheat berries so you’ll be fine. Most state agriculture websites have a local resource guide so getting local heirloom wheat tends to be much cheaper. Just tossing that out there. You can also get a bread mill, etc. Hope that helps other people as well and maybe improves your health too.
