After an empty scifi, futuristic, and fantasy slate for fall 2024, we’re seeing the spring 2025 trailers and it looks promising. Given not having scifi let me take up gardening, which resulted in losing 50-60 lbs over the past 6 months, but maybe we can do a mix of more active stuff with the media entertainment as the industry comes back from life support. The largest trend in Cary seems to be gardening fancy tropical plants mixed with English boxwoods. Might simply be a clever marketing campaign by nurseries to cash in since both can be pretty pricey, but hey. There are worse things than ad campaigns intended to make your neighborhood more beautiful. The best trailers are the indy ones, especially Angel Studios. Really approve of the new IPs instead of Fast and the Furious X+ or whatever remake of a remake of a remake series Marvel or whoever keeps making with British actors pretending to be American in bad accents. Better to take some risks than the new blah Superman trailer.
Which brings us back to Angel Studios. A couple of months ago pointed out that a Christian streaming app would stand to make trillions, but there wasn’t anyone going after this market. Stand corrected. We’re seeing Hallow and Angel apps. Obviously both have a long ways to go to reach scale and the Catholics are more organized, but it’s nice to see someone tackle the blue ocean. Film Threat shout-outs to Angel Studio’s Homestead and Gabriel and the Guardians. Anyone who reads any ancient religious texts knows there’s some pretty wild stuff so it’s nice to see people embracing the weird and plotting a course forward.
You used to see interesting movies like Constantine 20 years ago which did very well. Keanu Reeves did a whole series of interesting films in the 90s and 00s. Maybe we’ll see more risk taking in the future. As for the drones in the sky, it’s an obvious psyop and no we don’t know why. Whatever our government says, just figure it’s 100% fake. The drones may be real, but the rest...no. Just look at China doing light shows with Flying Dragons. Please go spend your time on other things people. Instead, let’s go enjoy the holidays with family and friends. Have a happy rest of the year and see you next year everyone.
